How to increase your internet speed and range

Having fast internet is vital to your online activity. Having faster speeds means less time buffering and more time trying to get what you want done. This is also very true if you watch videos/streaming often or if you are into online gaming. The worst thing to happen is having it sit and buffer or even disconnect you from the match you are in. For some this can even cause issues with rank in game and for those that do gaming for a living or hobby have big consequences. I have tried multiple of these to fix my internet speeds and all them did work just to different extremes. Speed boost will vary but what I have noticed that helped the most was getting a high end router. I am getting higher speeds than I even pay for because the routers these days have such great technology that it helps tremendously.

  1. Upgrade your router: If you’re using an older router that uses wifi 5 or below, it may not be able to handle the speeds of current internet plans or it is worn down. Consider upgrading to a newer, more powerful router that can support faster speeds and larger coverage areas. The best routers have new technology that even can give you faster speeds than you pay for.
  2. Limit interference: Other devices in your home or office can interfere with your Wi-Fi signal, such as microwaves, cordless phones, and Bluetooth devices. Try moving these items away from your router or using them less frequently. Walls also interfere with speeds so if make sure to have the least amount of walls inbetween you and the router.
  3. Move your router to a central location: If your router is located in a corner of your home or office, you may be limiting its range. You will want to put your router in a location that is more of the center of the house and it will reach further
  4. Use a Wi-Fi extender: If you have a larger home or office and are struggling with weak Wi-Fi signals in certain areas, consider using a Wi-Fi extender. These little devices sync with your router and boos the signal so you can get much better reception. They are practically mini routers.
  5. Change your Wi-Fi channel: If you’re in a crowded area with lots of Wi-Fi networks, you may be experiencing interference from other networks. Try changing your Wi-Fi channel to a less crowded one to improve your speeds and range.
  6. Upgrade your internet plan: If you’ve tried these tips and are still struggling with slow speeds, you might want to upgrade your internet plan. Contact your internet service provider to see what options are available in your area.
  7. Update your firmware: Router manufacturers often release firmware updates that can improve the performance of your device but only if the routers are supported by those manufactures currently. Check your router’s settings to see if there’s an update available.
  8. Consider a mesh router network system: If you have a large home or office and are struggling with Wi-Fi dead zones, a mesh network can help. This system uses multiple devices to create a mesh network that can cover a larger area. It is much stronger than a typical wifi extender and covers a very large area.
  9. Clear out your cache: Over time, your browser cache can become cluttered and slow down your internet speeds. Clear out your cache regularly to improve your performance.

By following these tips, you can increase your internet speeds and range, making it easier to work and play online. Again, performance may vary and their is not just an all in one solution but these tips should at least give some improvement to everyone.
